Silver Lining for Small Businesses
Both genuine recessions and, to a somewhat lesser extent, unsettled economic/financial conditions are fertile breeding grounds for successful new business ventures, according to a new research report published by the Kaufman Foundation.
The report notes that “…nearly half of the 2008 Inc. 500 and more than half of the 2008 Fortune 500 were born during recessions or bear markets.”
Kaufman’s President provides detail and insights in this interview.

THEY WERE ELECTED TO SERVE YOU
Are low interest loans and/or grants in Washington’s economic stimulus package available to your enterprise?
If you don’t know the answer to that question, it might make sense to contact your US Senators and your district’s member of the US House of Representatives to ask for all the relevant information regarding such loans and grants.
STORM TIPS
Advertising Age recently offered tips from five respected marketing executives for “Weathering the Economic Storm”.
Perhaps one or more of those suggestions could be of value. For example: “A recession is an opportunity to shake up the status quo: Weak competitors are ripe for attack; underserved customer groups and undefended markets are everywhere.”
Are your undefended market detectors properly calibrated? Another example: “Connect with your customers in a relevant and important manner.”
How aggressively are you conveying your relevant and important messages to your customers? See Advertising Age (requires free registration): Weathering the Economic Storm
