Consumers Let Their Smartphones do the Shopping

Mobile shopping has come into its own this holiday season, with nearly six in 10 saying they'll be using their phones for
holiday shopping. But consumers' expectations are high, and retailers risk alienating customers if their apps and mobile web sites fail to deliver.
Customers say they won't return to a mobile site after a poor experience.

Facebook's Pay Per Click (PPC) Offering Demographic Targeting

“For some time, the big three PPC engines (Google, Yahoo, and MSN/Bing) have tried to offer demographic targeting to advertisers. Google has offered demographic bidding in the Content Network for the past two years. Microsoft's adCenter has long been considered the pioneer of demographic targeting in PPC.” However, traditional PPC demographic targeting falls short when compared to Facebook PPC. “Facebook is the most-visited site on the web, grabbing 35 percent of total online traffic.

Facebook's PPC program offers both CPC and CPM pricing models, which is cool. Even cooler are the robust targeting options they offer. Remember, targeting is only as good as the info provided by users... but with Facebook, we tell them everything: age, gender, marital status, where we work (and used to work), what books and movies we like, and what topics we're interested in…We tell Facebook more than we probably tell our closest friends and family members… Setting up a Facebook campaign is as easy as setting up a traditional PPC campaign: just log in and click ‘Advertise.’"

New Version of Twitter is Coming Soon - is Your Business Ready to Leverage the Improvements?

Twitter has a new design. You will now find @mentions, retweets, searches, and lists just above your timeline – creating a single, streamlined view on the left of the screen. On the right, you can see the features you’re familiar with, including whom you recently followed and who recently followed you, favorites, and Trending Topics.

Within the newer version of Twitter, you will be able to view photos, videos, and other media content. You will easily be able to embed photos and videos directly on Twitter.

Twitter now makes it easier for you to discover related content about Tweets. When you click a Tweet, the details pane shows additional information related to the author or subject. Depending on the Tweet’s content, you may see: @replies, other Tweets by that same user, a map of where a geotagged Tweet was sent from, and more.

The new Twitter now offers mini profiles. This will save you the time of navigating from the page to research Twitter user profiles.
If you click a @username, it will provide you with quick access to account information, including bio and recent Tweets.

Consumers Spend More on Technology and Less on Travel This Season

If you haven't realized how technological advancements are having a global impact on consumers, this article may enlighten you. According to data gathered by electronics marketplace, Retrevo, consumers said they plan to spend more on gadgets and electronics during the 2010 holiday season than they did last year. The survey further revealed that consumers plan to spend less than they did in 2009 on travel.

What electronic gadget/device do you think people are most interested in purchasing this season? iPads.

The use of mobile handheld devices is not a passing fad. Instead, the use of mobile (and wireless) gadgets is a rapidly growing trend which will not only benefit consumers, it will have a great impact on businesses. Yet, if your business has not configured the company website to be viewable within mobile device browsers and/or your e-commerce store cannot operate within these kinds of gadgets (due to lacking m-commerce ability), sadly, you'll be missing out on many sales opportunities. If you have a company website not currently viewable within a tablet display screen, or e-commerce store not designed to handle online transactions via mobile devices, please call Cornerstone Consulting today.
