Specialty Search Engines

A new breed of search engine developers is creating niche search engines. In the near future, some search engine savants predict, search engines for very specific subjects (egs., automobile aftermarket performance equipment, high school football or women's sportswear) will proliferate and steal chunks of advertising revenue from Google, Yahoo and MSN. According to an article by Paul Kedrosky in the May 2006 edition of Business2.0 (not available online), specialty search engine "Kosmix.com is launching search engines for specific topics like health care, travel, and politics...(and recent startup) Zoominfo lets you search for information on people and companies." ZoomInfo, by the way, already has "fresh, comprehensive information on over 30 million business professionals and 2 million companies across virtually every industry." If a component of your marketing plan is search engine optimization and/or paid ads in search engines, you may soon amend the plan to include optimization and ads in specialty search engines targeted at market segments you wish to reach. Please the see Kosmix and Zoominfo sites for more information.
