Supreme Court Upholds The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)
Many may believe that The Affordable Care Act provides the U.S. government with excessive amounts of power. Under Obamacare, the U.S. Government has the ability to force its citizens to purchase health insurance. As the U.S. Government should never have the power to force its citizens to purchase specific goods or services, many believe this is a blatant violation of the Commerce Clause, and want the law repealed. For business owners interested in preparing for the numerous changes to come, like:
- “Health premiums will go up. Fans of the law say it will cut costs, but by extending government-subsidized health coverage to millions of new customers it is far more likely healthcare costs will increase and that will be passed through to consumers.
- Government spending will increase: How much, nobody knows. But the Congressional Budget Office’s estimates of lower spending are premised upon unrealistic provisions of the law, such as the 27% cut in physician Medicare payments next year that Congress will likely override, as it has always done. The CBO estimates that one way or another healthcare spending will rise from a current 17% of GDP to 25% of GDP by 2037. That figure will probably be much higher if Obama’s health plan survives the election.”
